Maruti Concept Future S Unveiled Auto Expo

Kicking off the 2018 Indian Auto Expo Maruti has unveiled its Future S concept. Maruti describes Future S as a design study for the small SUV which it will introduce in the Indian market soon. The car will be placed below Maruti Vitara Brezza in the company’s current lineup.

Speaking at the unveiling of the Concept Future S, Mr. Kenichi, Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki said “Compact is the natural choice of India’s car customers. Compact needs a fresh design language, one that is bold, confident and dynamic. Our designers have created this brand new design, aggressive on the outside, and bold and inviting interiors. Nothing like this has ever been attempted before on a vehicle this size. ConceptFutureS will define the next generation of design for compact vehicles in India”.

In terms of the overall dimensions, Future S concept is shorter than the sub 4-metre Vitara Brezza SUV. Future S shares its underpinnings with Maruti Baleno, Swift Dzire and Ignis. The heartect platform has been incorporated into this concept to aid in weight shedding.

Maruti Future-S micro SUV concept unveiled

Maruti has not confirmed the engine options which will be offered in Future S when launched. We expect that a hybrid powertrain will make its way into this concept’s production ready variants. This comes as a courtesy of the tie-ups Maruti has entered with Toshiba and Toyota to develop its lithium-ion battery-powered EVs. It is also likely that the petrol and diesel engine options for the launch models of Future S will include the same motors we find in the Ignis Micro SUV. This will include a 1.2 litre VVT K-Series petrol engine capable of producing 83 bhp of peak power output and 113 Nm of torque. The diesel engine of choice will most likely be the 1.2 L DDiS mill which will churn out 74 bhp of power and 190Nm of peak torque.

In terms of the aesthetics, the flat bonnet, upright A-pillar, sloping roofline and bulky rear end with heavy haunches are some of the key design accents which stand out on one’s first look at the Future S concept. The car also features wrap around headlights which come with LED DRLs. We also find wraparound taillights and a SUV like stance which is a result of the high ground clearance that the future S will be offered with.
