With bigger dimensions, 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga launch is expected to happen in the second half of next year.

India’s largest passenger carmaker Maruti Suzuki looks to finally freshen up its aging Maruti Suzuki Ertiga after half a decade of its launch. Recently, a camouflaged mule of the next-gen Ertiga was spotted testing on Indian roads. We can expect the launch of the new version entry-level seven-seater MPV by the second half of 2018. The Japanese carmaker might also showcase it at the upcoming Indian Auto Expo 2018.

The next-generation model is likely to get changes skin deep both inside and out. The spy images reveal that the new Ertiga will be slightly longer and wider than the current model. The extended rear overhang hints towards an increase in the legroom in the third row (a complaint factor in the present model). Moreover, other likely changes include LED projector headlamps, daytime running LED, LED tail lamps, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, Android Auto, etc.

It is expected to be based on Suzuki’s new Heartect platform and will be carry forwarding the same set of engines – a 1.3-litre diesel with mild-hybrid tech (SHVS) and a 1.4-litre petrol engine. The platform is lighter and underpins the Dzire, upcoming Swift, Baleno and the Ignis. The present four-speed automatic gearbox is also likely to be swapped with a modern 6-speed one.

Next generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Spied on Road in India

Stepping in to the territory of the champion Toyota Innova, the Maruti MPV was able to create a niche for buyers looking for an affordable yet reliable people mover. Post the launch of the Innova Crysta with a higher price tag, the bridge between the Ertiga and the Toyota MPV has widened by a massive margin. This in turn gives the Ertiga an edge over the Innova as it now becomes an ideal choice for users with budget constraint.

With Maruti Suzuki setting sales charts on fire with its premium offerings like the Baleno and the Vitara Brezza, an update to the Ertiga LUV (light utility vehicle) seems just the right move at this point of time from the Japanese automaker.
