2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Unveiled

Jeep has lifted off the covers from the all-new iteration of its flagship five-seater model worldwide, the Grand Cherokee. The new Jeep Grand Cherokee is essentially a five-seater model based on the three-row Grand Cherokee L. The new SUV will go on sale first in its home market of the USA, which will be followed in other global markets, including India.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Exterior

Jeep has completely revised the exterior styling of the Grand Cherokee. Based much on the seven-seater Grand Cherokee L, the new Grand Cherokee is 294mm shorter than the former and comes with its own set of minute styling differences. On the outside, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with elements like active grille shutters, air curtains and thicker rear pillars, all of which have been introduced to enhance the overall aerodynamic appeal of the SUV. The model is complete with modern features like LED illumination all around and diamond-cut alloy wheels too.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee: Interior

The Jeep Grand Cherokee has received much more comprehensive changes on the inside, with the cabin completely revamped to make it look much more modern than the model it has replaced. The new Grand Cherokee has three different screens on the dashboard, all of which measures 10.1-inches – one 10.1-inch full TFT instrument console behind the steering wheel, one centrally placed rectangular touchscreen infotainment system and one additional touchscreen unit tucked in the co-passenger side of the dashboard. The cabin gets few more exclusive goodies like 10-inch head-up display, panoramic sunroof, wireless charger, heated and ventilated seats, rear-seat entertainment screens, three-zone automatic climate control and more.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee: Powertrain

Jeep has chosen a completely petrol-driven lineup for the new Grand Cherokee. There are two petrol-only engine options in the form of a 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine which makes 290 bhp and a mighty 5.7-litre Hemi V8 petrol engine which pumps out 357 bhp. Both these engines get an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

The star of the powertrain lineup, however, is the new hybrid engine, which features the new 4xe hybrid technology by Jeep. This powertrain is a combination of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors (one on both front and rear axles) and a lithium-ion battery. The combined power and torque outputs of this powertrain are rated at 375 bhp and 637 Nm of torque. The 17kWh battery is capable of offering an electric-only range of 40 km.

There is also a range-topping Trailhawk variant, which showcases the best of Jeep’s pedigree in off-road technology. This variant will also come with the 4xe hybrid powertrain, and in addition, will get off-road driving technologies like electric limited-slip differential, two-speed transfer box and Selec-Terrain traction management system.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee: Expected launch in India

The previous iteration of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was brought to India via the CBU route. This new model is expected to be launched in India too. However, this time around, the SUV will be assembled in India through CKD kits, much like how Jeep does with the Wrangler in its Ranjangaon plant in India. The new Jeep Grand Cherokee might be launched in India by the end of 2022, following the launch of the three-row version of Jeep Compass which is believed to be called Jeep Meridian.
