Suzuki Katana 999cc Sports Bike Displayed at Auto Expo 2020

Drawn from the Suzuki GSX-S1000, Katana 1.0L sports bike to be priced under 10 lakh (approx) if launched in India

The Japanese motorcycle and scooter maker in India has showcased Suzuki Katana at Auto Expo 2020. The litre-class sports bike based on the GSX S1000 was first displayed at the Intermot 2018. With the nameplate ‘Katana’, Suzuki pays tribute to the original bike that was introduced way back in the year 1981 in Japan.

Engine & Specifications

Katana is packed with a 999cc, liquid-cooled, inline-four engine that gives out 150hp of maximum power at 10000rpm and 108Nm of peak torque at 9500rpm. This engine is borrowed from the Suzuki GSX S1000F. It receives a slipper-clutch, 3-level traction control system and ABS with a dual-channel mechanism.

Suzuki Katana’s suspension is a fully adjustable KYB 43mm USD fork and a link-type mono-shock unit, which can be modified for pre-load and rebound damping. Moreover, the anchorage is provided by radial callipers from Brembo.

Style

Coming to the appearance and design, it features square shape LED headlight at the front fairing that bestows it a modern yet iconic emergence – providing a glimpse of the original bike. The sharp-looking design follows next till the tank. The stylish tank appears bigger however is of 12L fuel capacity, whilst the rear design remains simple yet appealing. The bike features the same fonts in the Katana badge as seen on the original motorcycle.

Price

In the international market, the 2020 Suzuki Katana sees a price tag of 13,499 USD (Rs 9.60 lakh approximately). If Katana comes to the Indian market it will be brought as a CBU (complete built unit) and with the addition of taxes and customs duties, the prices will be on the higher side. Just for the illustration purpose, the Suzuki GSX S1000 F that is priced at 11,299 USD (Rs 8 lakh approx) in America was sold in India at Rs 12.7 lakh.

Suzuki: Other Bikes at Display at Expo

Other two-wheelers at the Suzuki India stall comprise of BS6 iterations of its current bikes and scooters. And this comprises of Suzuki Gixxer 250 and Suzuki Gixxer SF250, Suzuki Gixxer and Suzuki Gixxer SF, Suzuki Intruder, and Burgman Street, all these two-wheeler models are set to hit company showrooms in March 2020. Moreover, BS6 Suzuki Access 125 scooter has already been revealed before the Auto Expo 2020.
