Datsun, the low cost subsidiary from Nissan, has today launched the Datsun Redi-Go AMT in India at the price of Rs.3.81 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). The AMT version of the RediGO hatch was launched in two trims – T (O) and S, priced at Rs 3.81 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi) and Rs 3.96 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. Both of these variants are priced Rs. 21,000 and Rs. 23,000 more than their manual mates.

The Redi-Go AMT gets both its powertrain and gearbox from the Renault Kwid AMT. It is powered by a 1.0 Liter 3-pot petrol engine than produces maximum power of 68 Hp at 5500 rpm and maximum torque of 91 Nm at 4250 rpm. This engine is linked to a 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) which can function like the manual transmission as well. However, the 800cc Redi-Go variants aren’t introduced with the AMT option.

The Redi-Go AMT will cater an effortless drive to the urban consumers who seek for the convenience of an automatic gearbox without compromising on the fuel economy. Although the car maker has not yet released the ARAI mileage figures of the RediGo AMT, but it is very likely that the car will return the fuel efficiency similar to its manual variants, i.e. 22.5 kmpl.

Datsun Redi-Go is currently company’s cheapest car sold in the Indian auto-market priced at Rs. 2.47 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi) and with the AMT variants now launched in the market, the car will be considered as the cheapest AMT car offered across the country as Tata Nano AMT will very soon be discontinued in the Indian subcontinent. In India, the Redi-Go AMT will compete with the AMT sibling Renault KWID and Maruti Celerio AMT, and to an extent Maruti Alto K10 and Hyundai Eon.

Recently, Datsun has also launched the Datsun Cross in the Indonesian market that features the CVT gearbox. This car is also likely to make its debut in the Indian auto-market later this year. Post its launch in India, Datsun will have three entry level cars featuring the automatic gearbox – Datsun RediGo, Renault KWID and Datsun Cross.
