2022 Hyundai Casper

Hyundai has pulled off the wraps from one of its much awaited projects, the Casper micro-SUV. The new Hyundai Casper is going to be a significant model in the Korean carmaker’s lineup, for it is hitting the sweet spot of micro-SUV segment in the compact car space. The new Casper will make its debut in its home market of South Korea, before arriving to Indian shores in first half of 2022.

2022 Hyundai Casper Exterior

If the Maruti Suzuki Ignis seemed too radical for your taste, then the Hyundai Casper should definitely reframe your benchmarks. The new Hyundai Casper gets an all new fresh design language which is youthful and quirky, and is wholly targeted at young customers.

The new Hyundai Casper gets a cutesy looking front end with split headlamp setup, consisting of sleek U-shaped daytime running LEDs above and rounded projector headlamps below on the front bumper. The front bumper houses the super wide grille with rounded outer edges, which engulfs the main headlamps and gets silver finish with triangular inserts in it. Also here is a trapezoidal front skid plate.

The side profile of the Hyundai Casper gets angular door panels and windows, with rear door handle recessed in the back of the rear window, much like what we have seen recently in the Tata Punch. The squared wheel arches with side body molding, alloy wheels, roof rails and sharpened front and rear fenders complete the side look of the car.

At the back, the Hyundai Casper features triangular LED light motifs on the tailgate, with big rounded tail lamps mounted on the corners of the rear bumper. The rear bumper also accommodates skid plates at the bottom. According to reports, the Hyundai Casper will be positioned below the Hyundai Venue, but will be bigger than Hyundai’s smallest car right now, the Santro.

2022 Hyundai Casper: Expected Interior

While Hyundai hasn’t revealed the interior layout of the Casper, it will be equipped with a range of modern bits like touchscreen infotainment system and multi-functional steering wheel. Like in the past, Hyundai might pull off a surprise by offering first-in-segment features with the Casper.

2022 Hyundai Casper: Expected Powertrain Options

For the Indian car market, the new Hyundai Casper will be based on the K1 platform of the Santro. This suggests that it might come powered with the Santro’s 1.1-litre four cylinder 69 bhp engine. However, the more premium variants are expected to get 1.2-liter 83 bhp petrol and 1.0-litre 100 bhp turbo-petrol engine from the Grand i10 Nios. The transmission options are also expected to be retained from the Grand i10 Nios, which are 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT.

2022 Hyundai Casper: Rivals in Indian Car Market

For the Indian car market, the Hyundai Casper might arrive with a different name. The Casper will compete with the already established offerings in the micro-SUV category like Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100. The segment is soon going to be spiced up even more with the arrival of Tata Punch in or before the upcoming festive season. The pricing of the Hyundai Casper will also make it capable to give a direct fight to naturally aspirated versions of Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.
