Maruti Suzuki EVX

Maruti Suzuki lifted off the curtains from the EVX concept on the very first day of the Auto Expo 2023, thus surprising everyone with its vision towards electric mobility. Much has been talked about Maruti Suzuki’s plans for adapting electric mobility, including its massive investment of Rs 100 billion in India for producing battery electric vehicles and making India a hub for it. As a follow-up to those plans, the new Maruti Suzuki EVX concept will make way for a production-spec all-electric SUV, which has been codenamed YV8 for the moment. But that’s not all, here are four more crucial insights which we drew from the EVX concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2023:

The EVX will be Maruti Suzuki’s first born-electric vehicle

Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the EVX concept is based on an all-new dedicated EV architecture which has been jointly developed by the think tanks at Suzuki and Toyota. In addition to Suzuki’s version, this architecture will also spawn a new electric vehicle for Toyota. These two new all-electric models based on the new architecture will be manufactured at Suzuki’s production facility in Gujarat. As far as the dimensions are concerned, the new SUV concept measures 4,300mm long, 1,800mm wide and 1,600mm tall, thus making it as large as other currently-available premium compact SUVs like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

The EVX previews the all-new design language of the Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki is one of those few carmakers which offers different design languages for all of its models, thus maintaining its individuality. The same goes for the new EVX concept, which features a flat nose and a tall bonnet, giving it an authentic SUV-ish appeal. The V-shaped headlamps of this concept vehicle come integrated with daytime running LEDs, with a blank grille in between them. Other design elements which make the Maruti Suzuki EVX concept eye-catching are high ground clearance, short overhangs, bulged wheel arches and rugged body cladding on the side profile, all of which make it look like a robustly-designed SUV. Adding more fanciness to the design of the EVX are the aero-style wheels, sloping coupe-like roofline and low-profile tyres.

The Maruti Suzuki EVX has an all-new generation all-electric powertrain

The EVX is the first electric SUV concept to have an all-electric powertrain under its skin. This concept vehicle gets a 60kWh lithium-ion battery, which is as big as the batteries in another premium compact electric SUVs like MG ZS EV and BYD Atto 3. This battery is expected to offer a maximum real-world drivable range of 500 km. Maruti Suzuki has also confirmed that the production version of the EVX concept will get a smaller 48kWh battery with a real-world range of around 400 km, in addition to the 60kWh battery pack option. However, the carmaker has not confirmed details related to the motor setup on this EV concept.

The production version of Maruti Suzuki EVX will hit the showroom floors in 2025

Maruti Suzuki has clearly stated that the production version of the EVX concept will be on roads within the next 2-3 years. It is expected that the new electric SUV based on the EVX concept will hit the showroom floors, possibly those of NEXA, in 2025. This electric SUV, once it arrives, will be a direct answer to SUVs like Mahindra XUV400, the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and MG ZS EV.
