Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR Launch

Triumph has lifted off the covers from the new avatar of its flagship roadster Speed Triple. Named as Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR, the new motorcycle is a more premium version of the roadster with design influences of both a café racer and semi-faired tourer.

2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR: Design

The Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR replaces the twin bug-eye shaped LED headlamps with a rounded LED headlamp enclosed in a curvier shaped semi-fairing at the front. This whole semi-fairing looks much similar to that of Triumph’s Thruxton 1200 café racer and comes with rear view mirrors mounted on it.

However, apart from this all new front fascia, the rest of the design of the motorcycle, including fuel tank, side body panels and tail section with LED tail light remain similar to that of the regular Speed Triple. Various bits of the motorcycle, such as fuel tank, side body panels, front fender, front fairing and rider’s cockpit come with carbon fiber touches to them.

Apart from the all-LED lighting all around, the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR also comes with features like self-cancelling LED turn indicators, backlit switchgear, cruise control, keyless ignition and a 5-inch full TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity. One can toggle between five different riding modes available – Rain, Road, Track, Sport and Custom – from the instrument console. Other riding aids available in the motorcycle include 6-axis inertial measurement unit, cornering ABS, bi-directional quick-shifter, wheelie control and switchable traction control.

The Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR gets the same four-stroke, liquid cooled, inline three-cylinder 1160cc engine from the regular Speed Triple. Coupled to a 6-speed gearbox, this engine pumps out a maximum power output of 180 PS @ 10,750 rpm and a maximum torque output of 125 Nm @ 9,000 rpm.

2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR: Chassis

Triumph has brought in a few changes to the chassis of the Speed Triple 1200 RR as well. The motorcycle sits on the same aluminium frame, but gets a more premium electronically adjustable semi-active front and rear suspension from Ohlins. The riding ergonomics of the motorcycle too have tweaked a bit, with 135mm lower and 50mm further clip-on handlebars.

Riding on 17-inch alloys shod with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP V3 tyres, the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR gets Brembo Stylema calipers with Brembo MCS levers for braking system. However, the owners can go for optional Pirelli Supercorsa SC2 V3 tyres at extra premium.
