Yamaha has pulled off a surprise by unveiling a more hardcore version of its middleweight adventure tourer for the European markets, the Tenere 700. Called the Yamaha Tenere 700 Raid, this is a prototype model which offers a range of mechanical advancements and additional features over the stock Tenere 700.

Design

Yamaha Tenere 700 specs

The Yamaha Tenere 700 Raid retains the tall stance and lean body of the stock Tenere 700, but the overall changes introduced on it make it look off-road focused. The overall look is inspired by the Yamaha motorcycles used by off-road riding experts from Yamaha, Alessandro Botturi and Pol Tarres. There are new tyres and minutely altered front and rear ends which make the Yamaha Tenere 700 more off-road focused. Furthermore, the bike gets add-ons like front and rear bash plates made of carbon fibre and a rally seat and screen.

Engine

2022 Yamaha Tenere 700 features

The Yamaha Tenere 700 Raid gets the same liquid-cooled, parallel-twin 689cc engine from the stock Tenere 700, which itself was lifted off from the MT-07. Yamaha hasn’t disclosed the power and torque outputs of the engine here in the Tenere 700 Raid, which otherwise makes maximum power and torque outputs of 74 bhp and 68 Nm in the stock version of the Tenere 700. There are some additional changes in the form of a bigger radiator, double cooling fans, new Rekluse heavy duty clutch, new clutch cover and lever, new airbox, new air filter, custom ECU and full titanium Akrapovic exhaust. For more torque, there is a new 48-tooth rear sprocket, which lowers the gearing of the motorcycle.

Chassis

The mechanical hardware of the Yamaha Tenere 700 includes several performance parts from Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing (GYTR). There is a new front and rear suspension setup sourced from Kayaba, with the front upside-down telescopic forks offering 270mm of travel and the rear mono-shock offering 260mm of travel. Both these suspension setups are mounted on custom made linkages for additional sturdiness. For enhanced stability on off-road terrains, the motorcycle gets Scott’s steering damper, full rally-style navigation gear from RNS and skinnier rear 140/80 tyre.

The motorcycle also gets a braking setup of a single 300mm disc at the front and a bigger 267mm disc at the rear, both of which get racing braking pads. For the front brakes, Yamaha has equipped a bigger master cylinder and new brake lever over the stock Tenere 700. The brakes are complemented with steel braided hoses and a new calliper mounting bracket.

Availability

For the time being, the Yamaha Tenere 700 Raid has been introduced as a concept model over the stock Tenere 700. This new model gives a preview of how the Tenere 700 can be more hardcore for proper off-road riding. It indicates that the motorcycle will make its debut in international off-road rally events like the Dakar rally in 2022. The Indian market won’t get this bike at all, as even the stock version of the Yamaha Tenere 700 isn’t sold here.
