Honda has brought in a heavily updated version of its popular entry-level maxi-scooter, Vario, in the Indonesian market. Currently, in its seventh generation, the new Honda Vario 160 now gets an all-new bodywork and a significant bump in its performance.
2022 Honda Vario 160 – Variants and Prices
The new Honda Vario 160 has been launched in Indonesia in two different variants. The entry-level CBS variant is priced at RP 25,800,000 (Around Rs 1.34 lakh), while the more premium dual-channel ABS variant carries a price tag of RP 28,500,000 (Around Rs 1.48 lakh). The scooter now comes in four different colour options of red, white, gloss black and matte black.
2022 Honda Vario 160 – Design
For the new Vario 160, Honda has completely transformed its design, which now looks even sharper and bigger than the model it has replaced. The frontal apron of the motorcycle now comes adorned with a wider V-shaped all-new LED headlamp, which gets daytime running LEDs on its upper edges. These daytime running LEDs extend towards the clear lens turn indicators placed on the upper corners of the front apron.
The scooter gets sharp looking body panels on the side and a flat floorboard, unlike the central spine in its direct rival, the Yamaha Aerox 155. The scooter rides on 14-inch alloy wheels. The rear profile of the Honda Vario 160 now looks pointier than before, with the scooter having a large pillion grab rail and a small LED tail lamp at the back. The scooter also gets a redesigned fully-digital instrument console.
2022 Honda Vario 160 – Engine
As the ‘160’ suffix in its name suggests, the new Honda Vario 160 gets a bigger four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 160cc engine. Compared to the 150cc engine of the previous model which claimed 13.1 PS of power and 13.4 Nm of torque, the new 160cc engine generates a maximum power of 15.3 PS @ 8,500 rpm and a peak torque output of 13.8 Nm @ 7,000 rpm.
2022 Honda Vario 160 – Chassis
The Honda Vario 160 gets a conventional suspension combination of hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and a single-sided hydraulic coil spring at the back. The scooter also rides on a new set of 14-inch tyres, which are wider than those on the outgoing model – 100/80-14 tyre at the front and 120/70-14 tyre at the rear. Honda has also enhanced the braking setup of the scooter, which now gets single disc brakes at both the ends, unlike the front disc and rear drum setup in the erstwhile Vario 150.
2022 Honda Vario 160 – Will it come to India?
India has already got the direct rival of Honda Vario 160, the Yamaha Aerox 155. Currently, the Aerox 155 is the most powerful mass-market scooter one can buy in India. While the specifications of the Honda Vario 160 match with those of the Aerox 155, the Vario is not in the immediate launch cards of Honda for India.
