As with the new RC 125 and RC 200, which are already on sale, the new KTM RC 390 gets an all-new bodywork over its predecessor, which is shared with the former two motorcycles. In comes a new bigger front fairing with an all-new LED headlamp and daytime running LEDs, fairing-mounted LED turn indicators, revised rearview mirrors, new side fairing panels, a new 13.7-litre fuel tank and a new raised tail section. It also gets new split seats, with the pillion seat now being more comfortable and broader than before.

Also new to the motorcycle is a stubbier exhaust pipe with a mesh-pattern outlet and five-spoke alloy wheels. KTM claims that the new bodywork offers better stability and wind protection to the motorcycle at higher speeds and allows better heat management from the engine.

2022 KTM RC 390 – Features and Mechanicals

The new KTM RC 390 finally gains the full-TFT instrument console, which made its debut in the Duke 390 in 2017 and later on made its way in the 390 Adventure. Like in the other two motorcycles, the unit here is Bluetooth-enabled, through which one can get a phone call and SMS alerts.

Also new to the motorcycle is the new trellis frame with sub-frame mounted on it, new 43mm front upside-down forks (which aren’t adjustable unlike the global-spec version of the motorcycle) and preload adjustment for the mono-shock at the rear. Other features which have been made available in the new KTM RC 390 are cornering ABS with supermoto mode, traction control, height-adjustable clip-on handlebars, backlit switchgear, bi-directional quick-shifter and assist and slipper clutch.

2022 KTM RC 390 – Engine and Transmission

KTM has retained the four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 373cc engine from the previous version of the RC 390 for the new-generation model. However, KTM has made a couple of changes to the engine, such as revised ECU mapping and a new bigger airbox. As a result, the torque output has bumper up to 37 Nm @ 7,000 rpm from 35 Nm in the previous version. Though, the peak power output of the motorcycle remains similar at 43.5 PS @ 9,000 rpm. The 6-speed gearbox has been carried on from the previous generation version of the motorcycle.

2022 KTM RC 390 – Competition

The new pricing of the KTM RC 390 positions it right in the middle of the smaller and less powerful TVS Apache RR 310, and the Kawasaki Ninja 300, which is also lesser powerful but comes with a more refined parallel-twin layout for its engine.
