Kia Sonet, the Korean car maker’s concept car will rival the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue.
Kia Motors has finally revealed its compact SUV Sonet as a concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. Just like its elder sibling Kia Seltos, the sub-4-metre SUV Sonet too witnessed world debut in India. Remember the SP Concept at the previous Auto Expo edition?

Expected to be better loaded with equipment compared to Seltos, Sonet (internally codenamed QYI), is more of a close-to-production version that will be launched in the second half of 2020. To be priced in the range of Rs 7 lakh – Rs 11.5 lakh approx (ex-showroom), the 5-seater Sonet will disrupt leading compact SUV players like Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport.
Engine & Specifications
The Korean car maker is expected to make Sonet as a more affordable offering sighting cut-throat competition from established compact SUVs. The underhood mechanicals are expected to be borrowed from Hyundai Venue. That said it will feature BS6 compliant 1.2L petrol (83PS & 114Nm), 1.4L diesel (90PS & 220Nm) and 1.0L turbo petrol (120PS & 172Nm) units.
After its launch, the Kia Sonet will be available in manual as well as automatic transmission options. Moreover, in terms of looks, it gets a sleek blackened Tiger Nose with red bordering on the front bumper with side cladding. Headlamp cluster features incorporated LED DRLs, while elegant bonnet curves bestow an uncluttered emergence. The roof is studded with aluminium roof rails and rear gets full-width LED taillights.
Interiors are expected to comprise a large touchscreen infotainment system synced via Kia’s UVO Connect and many other driver-assistive and passenger-friendly features. Some impressive cabin elements include a 10.25-inch touchscreen, and a Bose sound music system, while other expected features can be auto climate control, air purifier in its top of the line trims.
To be positioned below Kia Seltos, the youth-oriented Sonet may also come up with an array of customisable options like the dual and contrast roof choices along with other modifications. On the safety front, Kia Sonet will feature best in class protection features with dual airbags, rear-view park assist, ABS with EBD coming standard across its line-up.
