2022 Harley Davidson Sportster S

Harley Davidson has expanded its lineup in the Indian two-wheeler market by bringing in the all-new Sportster S. Launched at the India Bike Week 2021, the Harley Davidson Sportster S is the second motorcycle after Pan America 1250 adventure tourer to get the latest-gen Revolution Max engine. Like all the other motorcycles from Harley Davidson, the new Sportster S is brought through the CBU route.

Design

The Harley Davidson Sportster S is the most contemporary-looking take on the old-school cruiser motorcycle design which the American motorcycle giant is known for. With a low-slung and stretched length coupled with fat tyres on either end, the Harley Davidson Sportster S has got a good looking mix of a bobber, cruiser and naked roadster.

The Harley Davidson Sportster S gets a small rounded LED headlamp with rounded LED turn indicators at the front, while at the back, it looks minimalist with a fully exposed rear tyre and a small tyre hugger with a license plate mounted on it. Including the curved fuel tank and a small single-piece seat cowl, the Harley Davidson Sportster S has got a muscular-looking appeal of a custom-made motorcycle.

What catches one’s attention is the dual exhaust pipes staked one above the other at a height just below the seat cowl, just like in a traditional scrambler motorcycle. The alloy wheels, exhaust pipes and engine have been given all-black treatment, while the engine also comes with additional bronze-coloured touches.

Features

The Harley Davidson Sportster S is one of the most feature-packed motorcycles in the history of the brand. Apart from an all-LED illumination all around, the motorcycle also gets a 4-inch TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation supports, cruise control and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

The list of electronic riding aids in the Harley Davidson Sportster S is also comprehensive with inclusions like a 6-axis inertial measurement unit, cornering ABS, traction control, four riding modes – Road, Rain, Sport and Custom.

Engine and Transmission

After the Pan America 1250, it is the Sportster S which has got Harley Davidson’s all-new Revolution Max engine. However, for the Sportster S, the liquid-cooled 1250cc engine has been detuned for better availability of power at lower revs. The maximum power output here stands at 121 bhp, which is almost 30 bhp lower than the Pan America 1250. The peak torque output, however, continues to be rated at 114 Nm.

Chassis

The new Harley Davidson Sportster S ditches the traditional frame for a sportier setup, in which the engine serves as the stressed member of the frame. The motorcycle gets fully adjustable upside-down telescopic forks at the front, while at the back, a fully adjustable mono-shock is present. The motorcycle comes with a single 320mm disc with a four-piston Brembo calliper at the front and a single 260mm disc with a two-piston calliper at the rear.
