Toyota Urban Cruiser

Toyota has marked its entry into the highly competitive sub-4m SUV space in India with its Urban Cruiser. Based on the Maruti Vitara Brezza, the Urban Cruiser is a rebadged version of the Maruti SUV. The Toyota SUV becomes the second product to come out of the alliance of Suzuki and Toyota after the Baleno-Glanza hatchback. It is available in three variants – Mid, High and Premium. The deliveries of the Toyota sub-4m SUV will commence from mid next month.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Vs Maruti Vitara Brezza Price Comparison

Keeping its legacy of a premium brand intact, Toyota has decided to project the new Urban Cruiser a little higher than the competition. In fact, the entry-level variant is costlier than the second-to-base variant (Vxi) of the Brezza. However, on the feature-front, it matches with the list of the Vxi trim.

What is the difference between Urban Cruiser and Vitara Brezza?

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. We can only say this as there are hard to notice changes between the two. The only tweaks evident are at the front with Fortuner-like horizontal slats, vertical chrome slats and butch fog lamp housing. From the sides and rear, the Urban Cruiser is almost exactly Brezza.

The cabin set-up of the two is the same except for the colour combination of the upholstery. In place of the all-black theme of Brezza, the Urban Cruiser gets slightly refreshing black-brown theme.

What are the engine options in the Urban Cruiser?

Under the skin, the Cruiser is Brezza and shares the same engine option as its donor car – 1.5-litre petrol engine. Just like the Maruti SUV, it is also a petrol-only car. With the same engine, it returns similar figures as well – 105bhp and 138Nm. It can be had with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. It also gets a mild-hybrid tech like the Brezza which assists in saving fuel.

Engine 1.5-litre 4-cyl, naturally aspirated petrol
Power 105PS
Torque 138Nm
Transmission 5-speed manual/ 4-speed automatic
Mileage 17.03kpl/ 18.76kpl

What are the colour options available in Toyota Urban Cruiser?

For the Mid and High variants, it gets white, orange, grey, blue and silver colour options whereas dual-tone shades are limited to only top-spec Premium variant. The orange shade comes with a contrasting white roof while brown and blue colours get a black roof.

What about the features in Urban Cruiser?

Instead of coming with a bare borne entry-level version, Toyota opted for a feature-loaded mid-spec variant. The standard features include LED headlamps, LED Daytime running lights, LED tail lights, wheel cover, auto AC, steering mounted controls, keyless entry and a 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth.

As you move up the variant, the Toyota Urban Cruiser gets auto-dimming IRVM, cruise control, automatic wipers and 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. It also gets a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. All these features are the same as offered with the Brezza.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Vs Who

The journey of the Urban Cruiser will be filled with worthy competitors. Besides its platform cousin Brezza, it will be locking horns with the lately launched Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and Hyundai Venue.

CarBikeIndia Says

The introduction of the Toyota Urban Cruiser does give buyers another option to check out. However, we believe it would fail to make its own identity just like the Toyota Glanza (rebadged Baleno). The sales of the Glanza linger around ~2500 units monthly compared to the 15000+ sales of the Baleno. If someone is not planning to buy the Brezza, the Urban Cruiser too takes a hit. So, this way it may affect its progress.

Let’s see how Urban Cruiser performs in the country in the coming months especially during the festive season.
