Mahindra Thar Bookings Commence From October 2

The Thar is expected to be priced under Rs 10 lakh.

After the unveiling in mid-August, the next-generation Mahindra Thar is set to make open its account from October 2, 2020. Post bookings, the deliveries are expected to start around the mid of the next month. The newest avatar of the Thar has grown in proportions and looks more mature and easy-going than its all-muscle earlier version. There is rarely anything common between both the generations. Design

The design of the Mahindra Thar has gone completely under the hammer. The butch SUV now looks more like modern Jeep cars, a trait it always had. There are many ‘for the first time’ aspects in the 2020 Thar such as factory-fitted hardtop, IP54-rated water and dust resistance, washable floor, front-facing rear seats (the regular bench seats facing each other are also provided) and a petrol engine.

The Mahindra SUV has turned out to be a more contemporary option for someone wanting to have the capabilities of the Thar but was shy to have those looks in his garage. With the second-generation update, it has become a more mainstream SUV rather than just an off-road vehicle. It has become purposeful.

Engine

The new-generation Mahindra Thar will be equipped with both the engine options – 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel. The former turbo-petrol unit makes out 150PS of max power and 320Nm of peak torque. Contrarily, the latter generates 130PS of top power and 300Nm of max torque. Both the engines are paired with a 6-speed manual as well as 6-speed automatic transmission. It comes with a standard 4WD setup.

Features

The Thar will be available in three variants. The top-spec variant of the Thar would be getting features like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, cruise control and roof-mounted speakers.

2020 Thar booking

The booking for the first Mahindra Thar is special as the money collected from this campaign would be utilised for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. The bid for the vehicle has started and has almost reached the Rs 90 lakh mark! The bid for the first Thar ends on September 29, 2020.

The next-generation Thar is expected to be priced around Rs 9.90 lakh for the base version and may go up to Rs 13 lakh for the top-of-the-line trim. It competes with the likes of upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha.
