Maruti e-Survivor Concept Revealed at Auto Expo 2018

India’s largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki has showcased its Hybrid e-Survivor concept at the ongoing 2018 Indian Auto Expo. The hybrid and EV offerings seems to be the trend for this year’s expo. This can be credited to the fact that the Indian government is pushing for the policy of introducing all-electric mobility in the country by the year 2030. Maruti’s e-Survivor concept might eventually be the company’s entry into all electric compact SUV segment when it is production ready.

e-Survivor was first showcased at the 2017 Tokyo motor show. The small SUV is powered by four electric motors which sit on a ladder frame chassis and send power to all four wheels, bestowing it with AWD. As far as the aesthetics of the concept are concerned, we can clearly spot similarities between it and the next generation Maruti Suzuki Gypsy which is also currently on showcase at the expo. Design accents which are commonly shared between the two SUVs can be spotted in the shape of the front grille and the spherical headlamp clusters. The e-Surivor concept comes with short overhangs, flared wheel arches and substantial ground clearance which go on to indicate its off-roading credentials.

On the inside we find a spherical display screen which we believe will take on the infotainment system duties for the SUV in the production ready model. Maruti’s current hybrid technology is limited to its mild hybrid SHVS system but with this showcase we believe that the automaker is ready to make aggressive expansion in the EV segment. Recently, it was also reported that Maruti has partnered up with tech giant Toshiba to develop and manufacture a range of dedicated lithium ion batteries which will power its range of Hybrid and electric vehicles. The company also announced a partnership with Toyota to aid in the production of its EVs.

Maruti e-Survivor concept is 3460mm in length, 1645mm wide and has 1655mm height. The power source is through electric motors which is supplied through dual front rear motor axle units.
