With prices overlapping some variants, we pit the new Maruti Suzuki kid on the block- the XL6 -against its cousin Maruti Ertiga and the Mahindra Marazzo.

Maruti Suzuki launched the premium MPV, the XL6 in India at Rs 9.80 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Based on the Ertiga MPV, the vehicle shares most parts with the LUV. Coming with a premium tag, the Maruti XL6 is likely to trick buyers wanting top-end variants of the Ertiga as the difference is of barely Rs 30,000. Moreover, the MPV aspirants are likely to check out the other contender in this segment too – the Mahindra Marazzo.

Let’s stack the three against one another to check which one is a better option to go for.

All prices are ex-showroom Delhi

  • The XL6 Zeta, Ertiga Z+ petrol and Ertiga V diesel are almost similarly priced, except for the Z+ which costs Rs 17,000 less compared to the Zeta. For the difference sum you get cruise control, LED front fog lamps, captain seats, all black upholstery, adjustable headrests in all three rows, integrated LED DRLs and quad chamber LED reflector headlamps as extra in the Zeta variant. We believe the embellishments are worth it and you should go for the Maruti XL6 Zeta if your budget revolves around the Rs 9.70-10 lakh bracket.
        • The Mahindra Marazzo M2 does not offer anything extra over the compared variants except for the space & power. Feature wise, the competition is between the Maruti XL Alpha and Ertiga Z AT.
With just over Rs 30,000, you get leather seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, sun visor vanity mirror illumination, integrated LED DRLs, adjustable headrests in all three rows, cruise control, LED front fog lamps, captain seats, reverse parking camera and 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. We believe the price premium is slightly on the costlier side but the rich feel you get with the Maruti XL6 makes it lucrative enough for you to go for the Alpha variant, unless you want an automatic at this price.
          • The Maruti XL6 Alpha AT is dearer by approximately Rs 25,000 from the Ertiga Z+ diesel and around Rs 10,000 cheaper than the Marazzo M4 7-seater variant. If you are looking for a seven seater, the XL6 is out of the comparison and you can go for either the Ertiga or the Marazzo.

For the additional sum for Alpha AT, you get an automatic gearbox, cruise control, LED front fog lamps, captain seats, all black upholstery, adjustable headrests in all three rows, integrated LED DRLs and quad chamber LED reflector headlamps.

We again suggest you to go for the Maruti XL6 Alpha AT in this comparison. However, if you are a fuel conscious person, the diesel variant of the Ertiga should suit your need as its mileage is way better than the competition.

Dimension Comparison

Measurements Maruti XL 6 Maruti Ertiga Mahindra Marazzo
Length 4445 mm 4395 mm 4585 mm
Width 1775 mm 1735 mm 1866 mm

Wheelbase 2740 mm 2740 mm 2760 mm
Boot space* 209L 209L 190L

*All three rows up

The Mahindra Marazzo turns out to be the real winner as it is taller, wider and longer than its peers. Even its wheelbase is the longest in the competition. The increased wheelbase generally liberates more space inside the cabin.

However, the XL6 and the Ertiga beat Marazzo when it comes to boot space.

Engine Comparison

The Marazzo pins the competition even in the engine department as it beats the engines of XL6 and Ertiga by a good margin. However, it ranks last when it comes to consuming fuel. It has the lowest mileage among the competition. The diesel Ertiga tops the fuel efficiency chart with 24.20kmpl of figure followed by XL6.

The Maruti Suzuki XL6 and the Ertiga share the smart hybrid petrol engines and thus, get the same output.

In a nutshell, we believe the Maruti XL6 seems to be a better product as a whole.
