Upcoming cars in India August 2019

With the flurry of new car launches in the past 6 months, Indian automotive market is certainly on a roll with buyers spoiled for choices. Until now, we have seen the launch of popular models like the Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Harrier, Hyundai Kona Electric, MG Hector and Toyota Glanza. The show doesn’t seem to halt with the market set to witness some highly awaited launches of this year in August 2019. Here are the top 4 upcoming cars launching next month.

Expected launch: 22 August

Kia is set to debut in the Indian subcontinent with the launch of its Seltos SUV. Codenamed as Kia SP concept, it was a showstopper at the 2018 Auto Expo. The SUV comes with multiple engine options; two in petrol and one in diesel. It gets 1.4-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre petrol while diesel mill is also of similar capacity – 1.5-litre. Probably, a first time for any vehicle in India at this price range, it comes with 4 transmission choices – 6-speed MT and torque converter AT, CVT and a 7-speed Dual Clutch. And not to mention, the plethora of first-in-segment features such as 360 degree camera, sound mood lighting, blind spot detection system, HUD mode, Premium Bose speakers, 10.25-inch touchscreen and many more.

2. Tata Altroz

Expected launch: August

Another most awaited car of this year is Tata Altroz. The premium hatchback from Tata was codenamed as 45X at the 2018 Auto Expo where it was unveiled for the first time in India. Competing against the likes of Toyota Glanza, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and Maruti Baleno, the Altroz is expected to be equipped with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine along with a 1.5-litre diesel sourced from its sibling, the Nexon. Besides, a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated diesel is also likely on the cards. It is expected to be mated to a five-speed manual and an AMT transmission. Expect features such as cruise control, 7-inch infotainment unit, auto climate control with rear aircon vents in the upcoming Tata Altroz.

3. Renault Triber

Renault Triber

Expected price: Rs 5-7 lakh (approximate, ex-showroom)

Expected launch: August

If there is one such model which has the capability to thrust Renault’s presence in the country after the Kwid and Duster, it would be the Renault Triber. The 7-seater MPV measures under-4meter and has no direct rivals in the country. Seems to be a perfect family budget car, the Triber gets 60:40 split folding rear seats. The seats arrangement can be changed completely to either 2-seat or 5-seat or 7-seat. It gets a massive 625-litres of boot when the occupancy is 5. The seats can be completely removed which makes the Triber the first in its league to have such a feature. Powering the Triber will be a 1.0-litre petrol engine with a choice of a 5-speed manual or AMT.

4. Hyundai Grand i10

Expected launch: 20 August

As the mid-size hatchback segment soars up with new entrants inline, Hyundai gets ready to launch its new generation Grand i10 on 20th August, 2019. We do not expect radical changes in the newer model but features like an 8-inch touchscreen unit is likely to make way in it. The South Korean automaker might plonk a new AMT transmission in place of the primitive 4-speed automatic. Engine options are likely to remain unchanged. Exterior and interior will be redesigned subtly. Price range is expected to remain the same.
