Updated three-door Land Rover Defender 90 launched in India

Just a couple of days after launching the updated Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover has brought in the revised lineup of the three-door version of the Defender SUV. The Land Rover Defender 90 is now made available in India in a total of three versions – Standard, X-Dynamic and Defender X. The prices for the new Land Rover Defender 90 commence at Rs. 76.57 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

2021 Land Rover Defender 90: Variants

The Land Rover Defender 90 is a three-door short wheelbase version of the five-door Defender 110, which was launched in India in October 2020. With a total length of 4,583mm, the Defender 90 is 435mm shorter than the Defender 110.

As said above, the new Land Rover Defender has been brought in three different packages to choose from – Standard, X-Dynamic and Defender-X. The Standard and X-Dynamic variants differ on the basis of a few cosmetic changes.

Both the Standard and X-Dynamic variants can further be had in S, SE and HSE variants, with an additional Base variant below the S variant available with the Standard Defender.

2021 Land Rover Defender 90: Features

The main highlight of the Land Rover Defender 90 is the additional jump seat between the front seats, which takes the total seating capacity of the SUV up to 6 passengers. The Defender 90 also gets Land Rover’s trademark Pivi Pro infotainment system as well as Terrain Response Management 2, the latter of which includes a new Wade programme for better water wading capability.

One has the option to choose between three powertrains for the Land Rover Defender 90 – two petrol powered and one diesel powered. While the smaller 2.0-liter four cylinder turbocharged petrol engine makes 300 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque, the bigger 3.0-liter six cylinder turbocharged petrol engine produces 400 PS of power and 550 Nm of torque. The 3.0-liter six cylinder diesel engine is capable of making 300 PS of power and 650 Nm of torque. All these engine options get an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard transmission option.

With its three-door layout, the Land Rover Defender 90 is one unique offering, and is belongs to a niche category of 4×4 luxury off-roaders, which also includes the Jeep Wrangler as well.
