Mini India has finally launched the all-electric version of its popular 3-door Mini hatchback, the Mini Cooper SE. Launched in a single fully-loaded variant, the all-electric Mini Cooper SE has been priced at Rs 47.20 lakh (ex-showroom, India). This price will be applicable on all the 30 pre-bookings made for the Mini Cooper SE, which form the first batch of the all-electric hatchback in India. Mini will start accepting taking new bookings for the second batch and deliver the units of the first batch from March 2022.
The Mini Cooper SE which has arrived in India is the latest iteration of the hatchback, which is based on the three-door Mini Cooper. It means that the Mini Cooper SE gets rounded all-LED headlamps, tail lamps with LED inserts inspired from Union Jack and the iconic two-door look with blacked-out pillars, roof and surrounds for headlamps, tail lamps and the front closed grille.
As a part of the global update, the Mini Cooper SE was revised with a bigger closed grille and redesigned front and rear bumpers, which are there in the India-spec version as well. To differentiate it from the regular Mini Cooper, the Mini Cooper SE come with bright yellow-coloured rearview mirrors and inserts on the unique design for the wheels. The Indian market gets the Mini Cooper SE in four different colour options – White Silver, British Racing Green, Moonwalk Grey and Midnight Black.
Interior and Features
The overall layout of the cabin of the Mini Cooper SE is similar to that of its petrol-powered counterpart. In this latest iteration, the Mini Cooper SE is bestowed with a new 5.5-inch full-TFT instrument console with rounded sides and a revised 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay. The cabin gets bright yellow accents at places and has a new toggle switch for the multi-level brake energy regeneration system on the centre console. Apart from these highlights, the Mini Cooper SE is also equipped with additional features like a premium Harman Kardon music system, sports seats, Nappa leather upholstery and panoramic glass roof.
It is where the real change has happened. The Mini Cooper SE is powered by a single electric motor, which produces 184 bhp of maximum power and 270 Nm of maximum torque. The power is channelled to the front wheels, with the Mini Cooper SE capable of reaching 100 kmph from standstill in 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 150 kmph. The Mini Cooper SE is available with four different drive modes – Mid, Sport, Green and Green+.
The Mini Cooper SE also gets a 32.6 kWh lithium-ion battery placed below the front passenger seat, which offers a maximum WLTP-certified driving range of 270 km. This battery can be charged from 0-80 per cent in 36 minutes with a 50 kWh fast-charger, while the standard 11 kW AC charger provided with the car charges it from 0-80 per cent in a maximum of 210 minutes.
Priced at Rs 47.20 lakh, the Mini Cooper SE currently has no direct rival in the Indian car market. It sits right in the middle of MG ZS EV, which is priced at Rs 25.18 lakh, and the Mercedes Benz EQC, which is priced at Rs 99.50 lakh. The Mini Cooper SE is offered with a standard warranty of 2 years and unlimited km.
