Honda has lifted off the covers from the XRE 300, it’s all new dual purpose motorcycle in the quarter liter segment of performance motorcycles. The Honda XRE 300 has been launched in Brazil with an entry pricing of BRL 20,390.
Design
The Honda XRE 300 looks nothing like the Honda CB 200X, but rather seeks an inspiration from the mighty Africa Twin. The sleek and tall stance of the Honda XRE 300 features an angular headlamp with high mounted front fender, in addition to the conventional fender above the front wheel.
The side profile of the Honda XRE 300 has a semi-fairing blended with the front fascia of the motorcycle as well as the slim fuel tank. The motorcycle comes with off-road spec tyres wrapped over spoke wheels and a high mounted exhaust pipe to give it a true adventure motorcycle look.
Features
For a motorcycle belonging to quarter liter motorcycle, the Honda XRE 300 has been equipped with enough modern bits like LED headlamp and tail lamp, LED turn indicators and a small rectangular fully digital instrument console. The console has a comprehensive array of information, including speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, odometer, trip meter and clock. The motorcycle also gets a luggage carrier rack at the back and a dual channel ABS.
Engine and Transmission
The Honda XRE 300 is equipped with a four-stroke, single cylinder, air cooled, 291.6cc engine, which is currently one of the biggest single cylinder engines in Honda’s lineup right now. The engine here makes 25.4 PS @ 7,500 rpm of maximum power and 27 Nm @ 6,000 rpm of maximum torque and is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Chassis
Sitting on a semi-double cradle frame, the Honda XRE 300 gets a set of conventional hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and a link-type monoshock at the back. The front and rear suspensions promise good travels of 245mm and 225mm respectively. The Honda XRE 300 is a tall motorcycle with a class leading ground clearance of 259mm and a seat height of 860mm. The braking setup is a combination of 256mm disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear, both of which are assisted by a dual channel ABS.
Price and Availability
Currently, the Honda XRE 300 has been launched in the Brazilian two-wheeler market in two different variants. While the non-ABS variant is priced at BRL 20,390, the one equipped with ABS is priced at BRL 20,890. The Honda XRE 300 is not expected in the Indian market anytime soon, as for the time being, the recently launched CB 200X is serving as a mild off-roader in the segment of entry level adventure tourers. As alternatives, the Indian customers have the options of Hero Xpulse 200, Royal Enfield Himalayan, KTM 390 Adventure and BMW G 310 GS.
