EbikeGo Rugged G1 Electric Scooter

EBikeGo, an India-based electric two-wheeler rental service, has come up with its first own product, the Rugged G1 electric scooter. With a starting price of Rs. 84,999, the EBikeGo Rugged G1 has been developed in collaboration with Boom Motors from Tamil Nadu. This scooter is essentially a mildly restyled and renamed version of the Boom Corbett electric scooter from Boom Motors. The new EBikeGo Rugged G1 will be manufactured at a production plat in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, which is expected to have a production capacity of 1 lakh units.

2021 EBikeGo Rugged G1: Variants and Pricing

The new EBikeGo Rugged G1 has been introduced in two variants – single battery (G1) and dual battery (G1+). While the G1 version is priced at Rs. 84,999, the pricing of the G1+ version has been set at Rs. 1,04,999. The first 1000 customers of the scooter will be benefited with a special discount of Rs. 5,000, apart from the compulsory FAME-II subsidy, which is Rs. 27,000 for the G1 and Rs. 54,000 for the G1+.

2021 EBikeGo Rugged G1: Design and Features

The EBikeGo Rugged G1 comes with a very simple and minimalist design, the majority of which is taken care of by a broad and exposed steel cradle frame. The electric scooter gets LED headlamp and tail lamp, a digital instrument console, USB charging socket for electronic devices and an under seat storage compartment of 50 liters. The customers also have an access to connectivity solutions via smartphone application, including service records, vehicle performance on the go, charging monitoring, anti-theft alarm and remote start.

2021 EBikeGo Rugged G1: Powertrain

Powering both the versions of the EBikeGo Rugged G1 is a 3 kW electric motor, which makes the scooter capable of reaching a top speed of 35 kph in Eco mode and 75 kmph in Power mode. While the ‘Eco’ mode is standard in both the versions, the ‘Power’ mode is being offered only in the G1+ version.

When it comes to the battery configurations, the EBikeGo Rugged G1 comes with a single 1.9 kWh electric battery in the G1 version and two 1.9 kWh batteries in the G1+ version. These batteries are portable as well as dust and water resistant. The maximum riding range of the G1 version is 80 kmph in the G1, whereas the G1+ promises a riding range of 160 km in ‘Eco’ mode and 135 km in ‘Power’ mode.

The battery can be charged fully in 4 hours using the standard 15A home socket, however, for the moment, the scooter misses out on fast charging solution. A warranty period of 3 years/20,000 km is standard for the scooter, battery and charger.

2021 EBikeGo Rugged G1: Chassis

The overall chassis of the EBikeGo Rugged G1 is made up of a steel cradle frame, with EBikeGo claiming a warranty of seven years for this chassis. Tipping the weighing scales at 102 kg, the EBikeGo Rugged G1 rides on 14-inch wheels which get 120/70 section tyres at both the ends. The suspension combination employed for the scooter is trailing link at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. The scooter gets disc brakes at both the ends, with a combined braking system on offer as well.
