Maruti Ignis Facelift Unveiled at Auto Expo 2020

Maruti Suzuki India has introduced the facelift version of its premium hatchback Maruti Ignis at the 2020 Auto Expo. Dubbed as millennia’s city car it receives SUV like grille with chrome inserts and revived bumper at fascia. Touch-screen infotainment system with SmartPlay system support highlights the cabin update. Mechanicals see no change apart from the petrol engine getting the BS6 compliant badge. The car will be retailed through Nexa dealerships and is offered in 4 variants namely Sigma, Delta, Zeta and the Alpha. The 2020 Ignis is expected to see a March launch this year.

Engine

The 2020 iteration of Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be seen with a single powertrain option in the form of 1.2L VVT, MPFi, SOHC petrol engine. The BS6 obeying cleaner engine gives out 81.8bhp of maximum power at 6000rpm and 113Nm of top torque at 4200rpm. Offered with no changes in the transmission choice it continue s to be driven with both, manual and AMT option. Currently, Maruti Ignis delivers a class-leading ARAI certified fuel economy of 20.89kmpl. 

Exterior

The new Ignis is slightly modified from the front to bestow it a more SUV-ish stance at the very first glimpse. Ditched by the new 2020 Vitara Brezza, the signature U contoured chrome inserts now show-off on the premium hatch. Other exterior elements that separate the new Ignis from the old are its reshaped bumpers with faux skid plate, while rear too sees fresh bumpers with grey skid plate. With more or less no changes at the side profile, Ignis once again stands as the most rugged and sturdy looking hatch in its segment. 

Interior

The cabin goes unchanged in terms of layout and instrument arrangement. However, the addition of Suzuki’s SmartPlay Studio 2.0 infotainment system and other titbits comes as the highlight. Likewise, the list of premium comfort and convenience features remains same that includes auto AC, electronic folding ORVM, push button start/stop, power-adjustable ORVMs, night/day IRVM, remote keyless entry, 60:40 split rear seats, adjustable driver seat, all-4 power windows, steering mounted controls and others. 

Safety

Features on the safety front come as ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, rear parking camera, speed sensing auto door locks and many more. 

Competition

The cheapest Nexa offering will continue to rival the likes of Hyundai Santro, Mahindra KUV100, Renault KWID Climber, and the Tata Tiago in the segment.

Price

Maruti’s compact crossover hatch comes with 4 variants. Although the 2020 Maruti Ignis price is not unveiled by the company we expected it to be slightly on the higher side due to its BS6 engine update. Below is the variant-wise price of the existing Maruti Suzuki Ignis.
