Mercedes-Benz EQ Concept Revealed At Auto Expo 2018

German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its EQ electric vehicle at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. This is not just a concept but a near production ready presentation of what the electric SUV will look like when it will go on sale in the year 2020. The design and build of Mercedes-Benz EQ is very futuristic. Touches like video cameras in lieu of rear-view mirrors, LED grille, motion sensing door unlock mechanism, panoramic sunroof and the display for the rear seat passengers which is integrated into the back of driver and co-driver seats just go on to show, how ahead of its time this SUV is.

EQ will be Merc’s sub-brand and it will be under this brand that the carmaker will launch its all-electric SUV. Fellow German luxury automaker BMW also has its range of electric vehicles- the BMW i3 hatchback and i8 roadster on showcase at the expo.

Mercedes-Benz EQ comes with a claimed driving range of 500km on a single charge. This is at par with the Tesla Model X SUV. EQ can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in under five seconds. This comes as no surprise because one of the benefits of electric motors is that they offer a lot of torque which results in fast acceleration. In terms of the power output, the electric motor in Mercedes-Benz EQ can deliver 408 PS on full tap.

Mercedes will offer EQ with a fast charging system which will allow the driver to charge the batteries for a 100km driving range in just 10 minutes. It has also been reported that Mercedes and BMW along with several other automakers is partnering up to setup fast charging stations across the globe. With the Indian government pushing for all-electric mobility by the year 2030, we expect these charging station will be up and running to aid the sales of these cars.
