Mini, BMW-owned British carmaker, has unveiled the second-generation compact luxury crossover, the Mini Countryman at the ongoing Auto Expo 2018. The Countryman will lock horns with the Mercedes Benz GLA, BMW X1 and the Volvo XC40. The new luxury crossover is larger than its predecessor and gets a new design language while retaining the touch of the old Countryman, which was introduced in 2010.

The first-gen Countryman was the highest selling Mini in India with the edge of being the only Mini car to be assembled in the country. It now shares the diesel engine with the more powerful Countryman S, which has the ability of producing around 200bhp. It gets a 2.0 litre diesel and petrol powertrains with different tuning. An eight-speed automatic transmission comes standard with the Countryman.

The car boasts of various newly added features compared to the previous model. It has more squared-off stance having edgier headlamps and a new grille. It still carries the signature “Countryman” across the boot lid. Even the tail lamps have been given an update with a new lighting pattern. With its 8.8 inch infotainment system, you can manage everything easily. Its touch-controller on the centre and Harman Kardon sound system adds further class to it. Adding to its feature list, it gets hang-on-clutch option for its all wheel drive (AWD) variant.

As said earlier, the latest Mini Countryman is larger than the previous generation model. To be specific, it is 200mm longer, 30mm wider and possess 75mm longer wheelbase, which offers ample of space inside the vehicle, especially leg and knee room for rear passengers. The boot too is now larger.

Though the prices are not yet announced by the company, but we expect that the car will be launched in India at the price of around Rs. 35.5 lakh.

Whether the new Mini is able to repeat the same success as its predecessor, the future holds the answer. In the meantime, you can check out our Auto Expo news section for live updates from the event.
