Wait is over with the French manufacturing giant launching the new SUV Renault Captur in the Indian market. In recent times, it appears that SUVs are becoming the prime choice of customers due to their robust and attractive design. Renault Captur comes with the same essence to deal with both domestic and foreign players; one of them is Jeep Compass.

Well, the new Jeep Compass has already enchanted the Indian customers with its stylish looks and brand appeal. So let’s see how the newcomer Captur can shove the Jeep Compass in this competitive environment.

Exterior

Talking about the styling details, both the cars seems to take very different approach, Renault Captur is based on the same MO platform as seen in Duster, there are many similarities between the two SUVs. Captur has more curvy appearance with stylish Megane like grill along with the LED headlamps. Its boomerang DRLs are placed lower on the bumpers while its flared wheel arches, swooping roofline and bulbous wrap-around tail-lights, complete the overall appearance of the car.

Coming to its rival, Jeep Compass acquires the signature Jeep design language. Compass look as scaled down Cherokee, it gets the signature seven-slat grille along with the angular xenon headlamps. Coming to its side profile, Compass has tall tyres and squared out wheels that give it a masculine look.

Dimensions

In terms of dimension, Jeep Compass is longer and has slight difference in height as well, while the width for both the models is same. Renault Captur gets longer wheelbase.

Features

Both the cars score equal in terms of features, but Renault Captur Infotainment system lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, though it gets 7.0 inch infotainment system with other connectivity features such as AUX-IN, Integrated Maps, media Navigation USB and Bluetooth Connectivity. Other additional features are Cruise control, keyless entry, automatic climate control and start/stop ignition system.

On the other hand, Jeep has bestowed Compass SUV with standard 5.0 inch touchscreen infotainment system that is really a commendable initiative. Other feature includes power-operated OVRMs while its top-range variants comes packed with HID headlamps, rear camera and leather upholstery.

Engine and Performance

Renault Capture gets the similar 1.5 L petrol and 1.5 L K9K engines as seen in Duster at present while the transmission duties are handled by standard 6-speed manual unit. The company may add AWD and automatic variants at a later stage.

Jeep Compass is offered with Diesel and petrol oil burners with a choice between 7-speed DSG AT unit and 6-speed Manual.

Mileage

In terms of mileage, Captur returns 14-15 km/l while its diesel variant delivers 19-20 km/l. Jeep Compass petrol and diesel engines are able to deliver 12-14 km/l and 17.1 km/l respectively.

Price

Looking at the intense competitive space of the Indian market, Renault Captur has been launched at a price tag of INR 9.99 lakh, while the top variant costs INR 13.88 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). What grabbed the eyeballs of the experts is the 50 premium features in such a reasonable price tag that has certainly increased its value for money quotient.

On the flipside, Jeep Compass price range starts from INR 15.16 lakh and goes up to INR 21.37 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Overall, it seems the new Renault Captur has an upper edge over the Jeep Compass when it comes to pricing and features. While in the looks and brand department, people would still prefer Jeep Compass.
