BMW S1000R – Price and competition

BMW Motorrad has expanded its lineup of superbikes in India by riding in the all-new S1000R in the Indian market. The new second-generation BMW S1000R has been launched with a starting price of Rs. 17.9 lakh for the base ‘Standard’ variant, which goes up to Rs. 19.75 lakh for the ‘Pro’ variant and Rs. 22.5 lakh for the ‘Pro M Sport’ variant (all prices Ex-showroom, India).

2021 BMW S1000R: Design

The new second-generation BMW S1000R ditches the asymmetric front fascia of the previous generation model, and in its place comes a new triangular LED headlamp with daytime running LED. The rest of the design, including front and rear fenders, switchgear, fuel tank, tail lamp cluster and side body panels have been shared with its fully faired supersport version, the BMW S1000RR. However, the pointy-looking fuel tank shrouds, straight handlebar, and belly pan are exclusive to the S1000R. Also on offer in the new BMW S1000R is a new 6.5-inch full TFT colored instrument console, which has become a norm in the range-topping BMW Motorrad offerings.

2021 BMW S1000R: Powertrain

The engine powering the BMW S1000R is the same four-stroke, inline-four, liquid cooled, fuel injected, 999cc engine from its faired supersport version, the S1000RR. However, to make it more urban-friendly, the engine has been retuned here to make maximum power output of 167.3 PS @ 11,000 rpm and a maximum torque output of 114 Nm @ 9,250 rpm. The engine has been mated to the same 6-speed gearbox from the S1000RR.

2021 BMW S1000R: Chassis

Under the skin, the BMW S1000R retains the basic mechanical setup from the S1000RR. The BMW S1000R gets a suspension setup of 45mm upside-down telescopic hydraulic front forks and a mono-shock at the rear. The motorcycle is equipped with 320mm dual discs with four-piston calipers at the front and a single 220mm disc with a single-piston caliper at the rear.

2021 BMW S1000R: Features and Equipment

The new BMW S1000R, being a flagship liter-class naked roadster, gets top-of-the-line equipment level to make sure it justifies its premium pricing. All the three variants of the BMW S1000R come equipped with three different riding modes (Rain, Road and Dynamic), ABS Pro, slipper and assist clutch, hill start assist and traction control as standard.

The more premium variants, ‘Pro’ and ‘Pro M Sport’, feature additional equipment such as dynamic brake control, riding modes pro, engine brake control, engine drag torque control and power wheelie control, keyless ignition, cruise control, USB charger, heated grips, daytime running LED, adaptive lights and gearshift assist. Lastly, the features exclusive to only the range-topping ‘Pro M Sport’ variant are M Sport seat, M endurance chain, sports exhaust, M GPS lap trigger, carbon wheels and lightweight battery.

2021 BMW S1000R: Variants and Colors

The BMW S1000R has been made available in three different variants – Standard (Rs. 17.9 lakh), Pro (Rs. 19.75 lakh) and Pro M Sport (Rs. 22.5 lakh). While all the variants come with two color options, Racing Red and Hockenheim Silver Metallic, the range-topping Pro M Sport variant also gets a Light White/M Motorsport color option.

Commenting on the arrival of BMW S1000R in the Indian market, Mr. Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India, said, “The second generation of the all-new BMW S1000R is designed as a power-packed roadster with supreme riding dynamics, athletic character combined with maximum safety and everyday practicality.
