One of the most iconic products from Toyota’s global product portfolio, the Hilux pickup has made it to the Indian shores. Positioned as a four-wheel-drive lifestyle pickup, the Toyota Hilux enters into a niche space that until now was single-handedly dominated by the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross.

The Toyota Hilux is now available in India solely with a 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which it shares with the Toyota Fortuner. This engine promises a maximum power output of 204 PS and produces a peak torque output of 420 Nm with the 6-speed manual gearbox and 500 Nm with the 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The Toyota Hilux lineup includes only two variants – STD and High, both of which are offered with a four-wheel-drive system as standard. The 6-speed manual gearbox is offered as standard in both variants, while the more-premium High variant also comes with the option of a 6-speed automatic transmission. Following is a complete description of both the variants and all features do they get:

Available solely with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the STD variant is the entry-level variant for the Toyota Hilux in India. The standard safety feature list of the Hilux, which begins from the STD variant itself, includes front, side, curtain and driver knee airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, brake assist, hill assist control, front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera and ISOFIX mounts for child seats.

As a part of the standard four-wheel-drive system, the Toyota Hilux also comes with a range of off-road driving features from this variant only. It gets a four-wheel-drive system with high-range (4H) and low-range (4L) modes, downhill assist control, active traction control, electronic drive control (2WD/4WD) and electronic differential lock.

On the outside, the Toyota Hilux STD gets a trapezoidal grille with silver surrounds, LED front fog lamps with piano black surrounds, halogen projector headlamps with LED turn indicators, halogen tail lamps, rear fog lamps, auto-stabilizing fins on outside rearview mirrors which are electrically adjustable and manually foldable, chrome door handles and 17-inch machined alloy wheels with 265/65 R17 Bridgestone tyres.

The cabin of the Toyota Hilux STD gets several comfort and convenience features like an 8-inch touchscreen system with capacitive touch buttons and compatibility with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, a 6-speaker sound system, all auto up and down power windows, cooled glovebox, drive mode selector with ECO and POWER modes, manual AC, push start-stop button, fabric seats, manually-adjustable driver’s seat height and tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel with audio, Bluetooth and cruise control buttons.

This variant also gets TFT MID in the instrument console, auto-dimming inside rearview mirror, heat-rejection window panels, 60:40 split rear seats, a front centre armrest with storage compartment and a rear centre armrest with cup holders. This STD variant of the Toyota Hilux is available only in two colour options – Super White and Gray Metallic.

Price – Rs 35.80 lakh (manual), Rs 36.80 lakh (automatic)

Available in four colour options of Gray Metallic, Emotional Red, White Pearl Crystal Shine and Silver Metallic, the High variant of Toyota Hilux is available with both manual and automatic transmission choices. This variant retains all the safety and off-road driving features of the STD variant.

On the outside, the Toyota Hilux High looks more premium with a gloss-black front grille with chrome surrounds, automatic LED headlamps with daytime running LEDs and LED turn indicators, LED tail lamps, chrome finished rear bumper and side steps, chrome finished electrically adjustable and foldable mirrors with auto-stabilizing fins, chrome door handles and window waistline and bigger chrome-plated 18-inch alloy wheels with 265/60 R18 Bridgestone tyres.

The cabin of the Toyota Hilux High retains all the features of the STD variant but gets a few more added enhanced bits, such as dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, power-adjustable driver’s seat, leather upholstery, chrome-finished inner door handles and soft-touch finish for the front centre armrest.
