After making a stellar debut with the Seltos in India, Kia expanded its presence in the SUV-dominated market in India with its next offering, the Sonet sub-compact SUV. Measuring under the four-meter mark, the Kia Sonet is positioned below the Seltos as Kia India’s most affordable product in the country. The Sonet was recently updated in April 2022 with new colour options, new features in lower variants and price revisions.

Available with a host of variants across the different engine and gearbox combinations, the Kia Sonet is available in six different variants. Here, we have compiled the prices, features, available powertrain combinations and dimensions of all the variants in which the Kia Sonet is being offered in India:

The Kia Sonet is offered in three variants – HTE, HTK and HTK+ – with the combination of a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 5-speed manual gearbox, and in four variants – HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and GTX+ – with the combination of a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 6-speed iMT gearbox. The combination of the 1.5-litre diesel engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox is offered in all the six variants in which the Sonet is on offer in India – HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and GTX+. The HTX+ and GTX+ variants are also offered with dual-tone paint options, which are priced around Rs 10,000 more than the regular HTX+ and GTX+ variants.

While the 1.2-petrol-manual variants are priced between Rs 7.15-9.05 lakh, the turbo-petrol-iMT variants are priced between Rs 9.99-12.55 lakh. The diesel-manual variants are priced between Rs 8.89 lakh and 12.95 lakh.

Automatic Variants

The Kia Seltos is available in two variants – HTX and GTX+ – with the combinations of 1.0-litre turbo-petrol with 7-speed DCT and 1.5-litre diesel with 6-speed AT. Here also, the GTX+ variant is offered with dual-tone paint options for Rs 10,000 extra. While the turbo-petrol-DCT variants are priced between Rs 11.39-13.19 lakh, the diesel-automatic variants are priced in the range of Rs 11.99-13.79 lakh.

Engine and Transmission

2022 Kia Sonet transmission

There are three different powertrain options available for the buyers who are looking out for Kia Sonet. The range starts with a 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which is available with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard and produces 83 PS of maximum power and 115 Nm of maximum torque. Then comes the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which pumps out 120 PS of maximum power and 172 Nm of maximum torque. This powertrain is offered with a 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission choices.

There is also a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which is available with two transmission choices of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter. While the engine with the manual gearbox produces 100 PS of power and 240 Nm of torque, the same engine with the automatic gearbox churns out 115 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque.

For the 2022 model, Kia made front and side airbags and a tire pressure monitoring system as standard across the entire range of Sonet, which starts from the base-spec HTE variant. This base variant also comes with ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors, while in the HTK variant, features like remote keyless entry and follow-me-home headlamps are added.

While the HTK+ variant adds in a rear camera above the HTK, the HTX variant adds in all the features of HTK and electronic stability control, brake assist, hill hold assist and vehicle stability management. Lastly, the HTX+ variant gets all the features of HTX and curtain airbags, while the top-spec GTX+ variant adds front parking sensors and ISOFIX mounts for child seats, in addition to all the features of the HTX+ variant.

2022 Kia Sonet specs

The mid-spec HTK+ and HTX variants of the Kia Sonet are equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto and a music system comprising of four speakers and two tweeters. On the other hand, the top-spec HTX+ and GTX+ variants get a bigger 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto and a premium 7-speaker BOSE audio system.

The lower-spec HTK variant gets a basic 2-DIN audio system with four speakers, while the base-spec HTE variant completely misses out on an audio system. The Kia Sonet comes with a Kia Connect telematics package from the HTK+ variant onwards, with the top-spec HTX+ and GTX+ variants also getting AI voice recognition with the ‘Hello Kia’ wake-up command, Kia Connect button on the inside rearview mirror and OTA map updates.
