In the last couple of years, the electric two-wheeler space has seen a lot of action like never before. From the arrival of all new start-ups to the established names trying their luck, the electric scooter and bike segment has witnessed quite an expansion in recent times. This new revolution has led to several options for the potential customers, who were once left with a couple of half-hearted attempts. Following is a list of the top ten electric bikes and scooters currently on sale in India:

The power in the Ather 450X comes from a 6 kW electric motor, which is capable of covering 0-60 kmph in just 3.3 seconds. The scooter promises a range of 85 km from a 2.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, which takes 3 hours and 35 minutes to charge from 0-80% using a home socket.

Simple One

Simple One

Price: Rs 1,09,000 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru)

The Simple One was launched somewhere near the time when Ola S1 made its entry into the Indian market. Like the Ather 450X, the Simple One comes from an all-new and unheard manufacturer, which has shown a lot of promise with its impressive specs and cutting-edge design. The Simple One comes with a 4.5 kW electric motor and a 4.8 kWh battery, which ensures a maximum riding range of 230 km – currently the highest among all the electric scooters currently available. The scooter gets features like a 7-inch touchscreen instrument console, four riding modes (Eco, Ride, Dash and Sonic), full LED lighting, a tyre pressure monitoring system and 30-litre of under-seat storage.

This nameplate needs no introduction – the Bajaj Chetak has been an iconic name, with its first-ever scooter model pioneering the Indian two-wheeler industry. The latest avatar of the Bajaj Chetak is an electric scooter, which gets neo-retro design language with cool new-age bits like full LED lighting, sequential turn indicators and a fully digital instrument console.

The Bajaj Chetak is being offered in two variants – Urbane and Premium, both of which get a 4 kW electric motor capable of putting up 16 Nm of torque. The Bajaj Chetak comes with two riding modes – Eco and Sport – with the maximum riding range being 95 km and 85 km in them respectively.

Bajaj’s arch-rival in the Indian two-wheeler market, TVS, has also come up with a new generation electric scooter to directly take on the Bajaj Chetak – the TVS iQube. With modern bits like all LED lighting, a TFT instrument console and a unique looking design language, the TVS iQube gets a distinctive looking visual appeal of its own.

Powering the TVS iQube is a 4.4 kW electric motor, which is powerful enough to propel the scooter from 0 to 40 kmph mark in 4.2 seconds. The claimed top speed of the TVS iQube is 78 km. The maximum riding range of the scooter is 75 km from the 3 kW lithium-ion battery which it gets.

This Japanese electric scooter might not be as flashy and feature-rich as other new-age electric scooters from India-based start-ups. However, it has a nice and modern looking design and decent specifications for the price point it is being offered on. The Okinawa iPraise+ has been armed with a 1 kW electric motor, which makes the scooter capable enough to reach a top speed of 58 kmph. The 3.3 kWh lithium-ion battery of the iPraise+ takes 4-5 hours to get fully charged and delivers a range of 139 km.

One of the early birds in this list of electric two-wheelers, the Hero Electric Optima is one of the most affordable electric two-wheelers in the country today. There are four variants of the Hero Electric Optima to choose from, across two trim levels – low speed and high speed. The low-speed variants get two variants – LA (lead-acid battery) and LI (lithium-ion battery) which promise a range of 50 km and 65 km respectively. On the other hand, the high-speed trim level has two variants on offer – E5 (single battery) and ER (dual battery), which ensure a riding range of 55 km and 110 km respectively.

BGauss B8

Price: Rs. 62,999 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru)

One of the latest entrants in the electric scooter space, the BGauss B8 has a very unique and off-beat design, which is surely the talking point of it. The scooter has decent specs on offer, like a 1.9 kW electric motor which delivers 9.46 Nm of torque and a top speed of 50 kmph, and two battery options (1.45 kWh lithium-ion removable battery and 1.34 kWh lead-acid fixed battery), both of which deliver a range of 70 km.

The only option of bike available in this list, the Revolt RV 400 looks like a conventional motorcycle but has a completely different powertrain under its skin. This electric bike has been equipped with a 3 kW electric motor, which is capable of putting up 50 Nm of torque. The bike has three riding modes on offer – Eco, Normal and Sport, with a top speed of 85 kmph which can be availed in the Sport mode. In the Eco mode, it delivers the maximum riding range of 156 km from its 3 kW lithium-ion battery.

YO Edge DX

Price: Rs 49,000 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru)

One of the pioneers in the electric scooter space in India, YO bikes have come a long way in making electric scooters for the young masses, who want an electric scooter for their quick and short city runabouts. The latest to join the YO bikes portfolio is the YO Edge DX. This affordable electric scooter has a puny 0.25 kW electric motor and 1.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, which are not as promising to read as those of other modern-day electric scooters. The Li-ion battery of the YO Edge DX delivers 60 km of maximum riding range and takes 7-8 hours to get fully charged.
