Maruti Suzuki Alto Variants Comparison: STD vs LXI vs VXI vs VXI+

The Maruti Suzuki Alto had a huge task of coming in as a spiritual successor of the Maruti 800, a car that helped millions of Indians fulfill their dreams of owning a four-wheeled passenger car. Over the years, Alto has seen a significant evolution, but it still continues to have the same notion of being a budget-oriented entry-level car for cost-conscious car buyers. In its latest iteration, the Alto is the most affordable car with a Maruti Suzuki badge, the complete variant details of which are as follows:

Variants and Prices

The Maruti Suzuki Alto is offered in India in a total of six different variants – STD, STD(O), LXI, LXI(O), VXI and VXI+. All these variants come standard with a 0.8-litre petrol engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox. In addition, the LXI and LXI(O) variants are also offered with a CNG-powered version of the same 0.8-litre engine.

Engine and Transmission

Powering the Maruti Suzuki Alto is a humble 0.8-litre three-cylinder naturally-aspirated F8D petrol engine, which is the smallest engine in Maruti Suzuki’s lineup in India. Coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, this engine churns out 48 PS of maximum power and 69 Nm of maximum torque. The engine is also available with a CNG-powered version of itself in a couple of variants of the Alto.

Safety and Security Features

As part of the Government’s norm, the Maruti Suzuki Alto is available with a driver-side airbag, ABS with EBD and reverse parking sensors as standard from the base STD variant. The STD (O) adds in a co-passenger airbag, which is available in LXI(O), VXI and VXI+ variants as well. The higher VXI and VXI+ variants also get the added convenience of a remote central locking system.

Comfort and Convenience Features

The STD and STD (O) variants of the Maruti Suzuki Alto are avoidable in our opinion since they do not get literally anything. The LXI and LXI(O) variants add in the essentials of a modern car, such as power steering, manual AC, front power windows and rear seat headrests. The VXI and VXI+ variants get internally adjustable rearview mirrors in addition to the LXI and LXI(O) variants.

Connectivity and Entertainment Features

While the VXI variant of the Maruti Suzuki Alto gets a 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth, USB, Aux and two speakers, the VXI+ variant gets a more modern setup of a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto with two speakers. The STD, STD(O), LXI and LXI(O) variants miss out on connectivity and entertainment features.

Dimensions

With a length of 3445 mm, a width of 1515 mm and a height of 1475 mm, the Maruti Suzuki Alto is one of the smallest passenger cars available in India. Its boot space of 177 litres is also the smallest among all the cars on sale.

At the lower end of the spectrum of the passenger car market in India, the Maruti Suzuki Alto competes with the 0.8-litre variants of the Renault Kwid and Dastun Redi-GO.
